Still here ...

Hi Folks,

Just a quick note to let you know that although we haven't posted anything in a few weeks, we are still feverishly chasing down great stories to feature on the blog.

We've had a lot of interest from bands -- and then a lot of bands not following up. We've been in touch with some very good bands, though, and we expect to have a couple of very good features soon.

Of late, we have tried to concentrate on lesser known bands. The idea of this blog has always been to present as varied a picture of the kinds of music we write about here as possible. We are incredibly grateful to bands like the Standells, the Spongetones, and the Count 5, such legendary bands that really set the tone for so much great rock and roll that followed them.

But we have tried to find those great bands that are newer. our recent feature on San Antonio Kid has become our most read feature. We hope to draw attention to more such bands.

We see that although we've not posted there are still people coming to this page. If you're a regular reader, be patient, more is on the way.

If you're new to the blog, first off, welcome. Though we hope you'll check out all of our posts, here are some great features we hope you'll check out.

The Cherry Drops: Quite simply, one of the best power pop bands around, If their music doesn't make you feel just a little happier and pleasant, you might want to consider medical attention.

The Barbarians: This Boston band was one of the first garage rock bands. Though their biggest hits "Are You a Boy or Are You a Girl?" and "Moulty" are considered oddities by some, this band had a lot of great tunes and, with their hard-edged instruments and in your face vocals, they clearly lit the path for both punk and metal.

The Gants: Along with the Moulty of the Barbarians, Sid Herring was one of the first artists to talk with us. In my 25 years or so as a freelance writer, I can tell you Sid was one of the most humble and personable people I've ever talk to. And, of course, the Gants were one of the best garage rock bands from the mid-'60s, with some of the best harmonies this side of the Atlantic.

Genya Ravan, the Pretty Things: That I was ever able to talk to Ravan and Phil May of the Pretty Things is one of those events that I still have to pinch myself to make sure it really happened. I had been fans of theirs for decades, and that they wanted to talk to me at all -- both chatted for about an hour -- was incredibly gratifying. Because they were willing to do so, I think it gave this blog great credibility and made scoring other interviews a lot easier. I'll always be grateful to both.

These are some of the artists we've featured but by no means all. We hope you'll check out our wonderful archive and read about some of the greatest -- if criminally overlooked -- artists of all time and some making the coolest music around today.

Keep checking back, folks, and most of all, KEEP ON ROCKING!!!
