The plan had long been to establish a presence in an online radio platform. We'll be honest -- just like you and everybody else who enjoys the music we write about, plays the music we write about and produces, markets, distributes, etc., we work for a living, too. And thanks to the Corona Virus, right now we're not working right now...
This is not the first appearance of Garagerocktopia Radio. KUCR (88.3 fm) in Riverside, CA, has been kind enough to let us make the terrestrial radio version of the show on a bi-weekly basis, and we hope will continue to let us do so. Those will later be posted. But now, you don't have to be in the Riverside area to hear the broadcast, nor, particularly if you're overseas, be awake at an ungodly hour to hear the show.
Also, full disclosure, we're still brandspanking new to this whole Mixcloud thing. As time and money permit, we will buy the equipment we need to make a more polished and professional broadcast. We admit the first episode, posted today, is a bit rinky-dink, a bit amateurish (well, OK, more than a bit).
But then again, likely you're not tuning in to hear us talk -- you're tuning in to hear great music. And the quality of that should be just fine.
This week's episode features almost exclusively artists about whom we have written on the blog. We have done more than 90 stories, so weren't able to include every last act. In coming weeks, we will present the music of those bands and those artists as well, and of course, give spins to the newest and most exciting in Garage Rock, Power Pop, Mod, Freakbeat, Northern Soul, Proto-Punk and other related subgenres.
Part of our goal has been to help get word out about great music being made by artists from all around the world. So far, we have profiled artists from more than 15 countries and four continents, but yet if you listen to our radio show and listen to the music of the many artists whom we have profiled, there is a common quality to all of them, and it's not at all hard to figure out: they all make no-frills, good-time rock and roll.
That's not to say they're not good musicians -- most of them have been making music their entire lives and are all very accomplished. But they have all made the choice that, instead of using their music as a vehicle to show off, or to dazzle you with their technical expertise, instead they make music that punches you in the gut and grabs right through to your soul.
Over the time of doing this blog, whether it has been artists whose music has been on the charts, or whose music you have heard on radio and in movies and TV shows, or bands barely getting established in their local club scenes, they have all been gracious, down-to-earth individuals.
Thank you to the many artists who continue to make this music. It would be so easy just to play in tribute or cover bands, but all of the artists we present take the time and emotional investment to make music that moves us all.
That is particularly valuable in this time in which we now find ourselves. We find our health, our livelihoods, and our economic well-being in very serious peril right now. Music doesn't fix those things, to state the obvious, but it is a tool -- an important tool -- in helping us cope with a trying time. And that makes good music worth its weight in gold.
And we'll continue to spread the word about great rock and roll, in good times or bad, both in print, and now by radio as well.

Don't Forget to listen to Garagerocktopia Radio, alternating with Blue Mood, Tuesday nights on KUCR Radio, 88.3 FM Riverside, California. We play many of the artists who have appeared on our hallowed pages and whose music has inspired us.
We have some other features already in the works here at Garagerocktopia. Artists have been sending us some very cool stuff. As always, we don’t make any guarantees in stone but we’re happy to say we’ve gotten a lot of very promising music sent to us, and we’re always happy to spread the word about about bands that are playing the way-out kinds of music we profile here. Send us a line and we’ll talk.
Also, we do have a Facebook page for this blog. We don’t put personal stuff on it – no pictures of grandkids (which we don't have anyway) or our dinners or politics or anything like that. What we do post are announcements about upcoming features, maybe extra stuff about the bands, and any cool music, movies or TV Shows we stumble across that might have even the most tangential connection with the music featured here. While we don't spend all day thinking about it, we do like "likes" if you're so inclined ...
